Joanne Jackson
Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha
Fairview , KS

June Joanne Jackson of Fairview, Kansas died peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, following a brief illness.

Joanne was born on June 9, 1931, on a farm south of Fairview to Ivan Klein and Dorothy (Nyfeler) Klein. She attended Fairview High School, graduating in 1949 and then attended Baker and Washburn University. After college, Joanne worked as a schoolteacher in Berwick, Kansas, and Powhattan, Kansas until her marriage.

In 1953, Joanne married her high school sweetheart, Charles Jackson, and the couple celebrated 65 years together. They made their home in Fairview until they moved to a retirement apartment in Sabetha in 2011. Charles passed away in 2019, and Joanne continued living in Sabetha until her death.

Joanne was an active member of the Fairview United Church of Christ, where she served on the Women’s Guild and sang in the choir. She was also involved in many other civic activities in and around Fairview throughout her life.

Joanne was a kind and generous person, a wonderful mother, and a doting grandparent and great-grandparent. The Jackson house was a hub of activity in Fairview for family, friends, and neighbors.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her son, Brad Jackson; her brother, Clifford Klein; and her sister, Loretta Chase.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Janet (Clark) Strahm of Sabetha; her two sons, Greg (Sherry) Jackson of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Jeff (Brenda) Jackson of Lawrence, Kansas; her eleven grandchildren; her 16 great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Jackson of St. Joseph, Missouri; and her brother-in-law, Gail Jackson of Baltimore, Maryland.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Fairview, Kansas. Before the service, a visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery.
