Keith Olsen
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
rural Horton , KS

Keith Craig Olsen, 60 of Horton, Kansas was tragically killed in a farm accident on December 8, 2024. Keith was born on December 2, 1964, at his family farm, the sixth child of Claire and Carolyn Olsen. He graduated from Horton High School and Highland Community College. After college, he traveled to the United Kingdom on a leadership tour and then returned home to farm with his father.

Keith was united in marriage to Denise Lynn Grau on June 29, 1996, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Flanagan, Illinois. They were blessed with two daughters, Grete and Ingrid.

Keith was dedicated to his community and was active in 4-H as a member and as a community leader for many years. He was also swine superintendent at the Brown County Fair for many years. He was active in Farm Bureau winning the Young Farmer Award and serving on the Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee. Keith began sharing his love of pedal tractors with others by presenting pedal tractor pulls at various fairs and festivals. He enjoyed meeting people and working with others through this venture. Keith also enjoyed serving as a basketball referee for over 26 years. Keith was active in Zion Lutheran Church in Church Council, Sunday School, and was Cemetery Saxton. Keith served as Brown County Commissioner for 12 years.

He also had a strong belief in giving back to his community, this is where he channeled much of his ambition and love of people. He did multiple fundraisers to complete a new gym floor for Everest Middle School, giving children opportunities to work with various coaches at the college level and above through youth athletic camps. After achieving this goal he continued fundraisers for Angelman Syndrome Research, to contribute funds toward treatment and support. He especially enjoyed fellowship with the tractor cruise each year.

His love of farm and family was perhaps closest to his heart. His happiest moments were when his girls were riding with him in the tractor or combine. He even took extra measures so Ingrid could get into each implement. His dedication and efforts will always be in our hearts.

Keith is survived by his mother Carolyn of Horton Kansas, his wife Denise of the home, daughter Grete Olsen of Manhattan Kansas, daughter Ingrid of Sabetha Kansas, siblings Tina Olsen of Pahrump NV, Steve (Renee) Olsen of McCallsburg IA, Lelan (Colleen) Olsen of Edwardsville IL, Kevin (Laurie) Olsen of Pahrump NV, Sister in Law, Jill (Jeff) Bressner, Sister in Law Diana (John) Oltman, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Keith was preceded in death by his father Claire Olsen.

Memorials can be made to the Keith Olsen memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
