Marilyn Hattan, age 84, of Atchison, Kansas, died Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Atchison Gran Villas surrounded by her loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Church. Visitation with the family will be from 9:15 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. at the Church. A parish rosary will begin at 10:15 A.M. Interment will be at St. Leo’s Catholic Cemetery in Horton, Kansas. Memorials are suggested to Atchison Gran Villas Activity Fund and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. Marilyn preferred to wear blue jeans and t-shirts, and in this thought the family asked that you dress casual. Also, motorcycles are welcome.
Marilyn was born April 24, 1940, in Horton, Kansas, the daughter of Ted and Caroline (Lockwood) Siebenmorgen. She attended Mount St. Scholastica Academy graduating in 1958. Following graduation, she and Glenn Hattan were married on July 14, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Atchison. They were married for 60 years, when Mr. Hattan preceded her in death on August 1, 2018.
Marilyn served as a hot lunch cook at ACES for many years while her daughters were in school. She was employed with Dr. Growney’s office for five years before serving at the Atchison County Health Department.
She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church, now St. Benedict Parish. Spending many years as the sacristan at Sacred Heart Church until its closing.
Marilyn loved to stay busy, she enjoyed numerous craft projects, such as sewing, quilting, painting and crocheting. She loved making rosaries and often gifting them to people in her life. Marilyn appreciated photography. She liked playing cards with friends or in her later years at Gran Villas participating in BINGO. Technology didn’t scare Marilyn as she worked up the Hattan and Siebenmorgen family genealogy on her home computer. She was the go-to family historian for the Siebenmorgen family and helped to plan many of the reunions. Of all her talents and hobbies, one stands out and that was her gifted ability to decorate cakes, she was able to say she made both her daughter’s wedding cakes.
Survivors include her daughters Glenda (Ed) LaBarbera, Dodge City, KS; Mary Lynn (John) Monson, Atchison, KS; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, John; and a granddaughter, Beth.
The family would like to thank the special people at Gran Villas Atchison for all of the care and friendship provided to Marilyn over the years.
