Esther Marie Miller, 95, of Hiawatha passed away suddenly on August 26, 2024 at Amberwell Hiawatha Hospital. She was born to Irving Frederick Morgan and Edna Myrtle Bloomer Morgan on February 15, 1929 in Atchison, Kansas.
Esther grew up in Lancaster, Kansas and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in Effingham, KS. On June 4, 1950, Esther married George Wesley Miller, Jr and lived on the Miller family farm North of Hiawatha where they raised their three children.
While raising their children, Esther helped George on the family farm and had other secondary jobs throughout her working years, including working at Brown County Infirmary and driving a school bus for 24 years for USD 415. Esther was known by many transporting their children safely to and from school. Esther loved to travel taking many trips by car, bus, cruises, and plane, our adventurous Mom. Esther loved her flowers, feeding and watching the birds.
Esther is survived by two daughters and one son: Connie Heitzman, Hiawatha, KS, Wesley Dean (Connie) Miller, Arlington, WA, and Jackie (Dennis) Hartter of Hiawatha, KS; her sister Carol Reese, Hiawatha, KS. 8 grandchildren: Andrew Heitzman, Troy Heitzman, Lance Miller, Alisha Cornelius, Brianne Hebert, Amy Coppe, Travis Hartter, and Casey Gormley; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, George Wesley Miller Jr., her parents, I.F. and Edna Morgan, and a sister Ruth Dorssom.
A Celebration of Esther's Eternal Life is planned at 2 p.m. October 5, 2024, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Cheryl Mishler will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Friends may sign the register book during office hours the week of September 30th. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services.
