Phyllis Marie Bertels, 91, formerly of Nortonville, KS died on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the St. Joseph- Catholic Church, Nortonville with Fr. William Dun-Dery as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Nortonville. A parish rosary will be recited at 9:30 am on Sat. Aug. 31st, 2024, at St. Joseph's Church, with visitation to follow until 11:00 am. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph's Church or the Benedictine Sisters and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton and O’Trimble Funeral Home who is handling the services. Phyllis was born on Feb. 12, 1933, in Nortonville, KS, the daughter of Frank Elmer and Bertha Ellen (Haas) Noll. She graduated from Winchester High School in 1950. Phyllis was a homemaker and housewife supporting her husband and family. She was member of the St. Joseph Church, Nortonville, served on the Altar Society, Church and Community Choir, was a member of the Nortonville Progressive Club and assisted with the research for the Nortonville Centennial Book. Phyllis enjoyed oil painting, cake decorating, sewing doll clothing and clothing for her family. She was an avid KU Jayhawk and KC Chiefs sports fan and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was married to Vincent F. Bertels on April 3, 1951, at Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek. They were married for 72 years before Vincent preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2023. Survivors include three daughters Sharon (Russell) McCort, Shawnee, KS, Eileen (the late James) Dray, Lawrence, KS, and Darlene (Bill) Rogers, Lawrence, KS. Seven grandchildren Melissa Dray, Amanda Dray, Suzanne Rogers, Matthew Rogers, Sarah (Bill) Saxton, Rachel (John) Draper, Hannah (Peter) Stolberg and six great grandchildren Annelise and Charlotte Grace Stolberg, Will Saxton, Penelope, Daphne, and Teddy Draper.
Her parents, husband Vincent, sister Ellen Respass, and granddaughter Carolyn Ann Rogers preceded her in death.
