Duane E. Chick

Salina and Whiting, KS

Duane E. Chick, 90, of Salina, Kansas formerly of Whiting, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas.

He was born on August 18, 1934, at the Horton Hospital in Horton, Kansas, the son of Charles and Ruth (Banks) Chick. Duane attended the Banks Country elementary school in Whiting Township and then went on to graduate from the Whiting High School in Whiting, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard Reserves in Holton, Kansas from 1957 until 1965.

On August 21, 1955, he married Betty M. Larson in Lancaster, Kansas. Duane lived on the Chick family farm in Whiting, Kansas until moving to Salina, Kansas in 2020. Duane was a lifelong farmer and cattleman, he also worked as a Radiographer and film reader at Atchison Casting in Atchison, Kansas for many years. He was member of the Everest Lions Club, Everest American Legion Post #288, 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and served as the Whiting Township clerk for many years following in his father- footsteps.

Duane is survived by his wife, Betty M. Chick and a daughter, Cheryl (Dr. Michael) Meier of Salina, Kansas; two grandchildren, Dr. Leah (Jacob) Peterson of Salina, Kansas and Dr. Isaac (Theresa) Meier of Lincoln, Nebraska; great- grandchildren, August and Vivienne Peterson, Maxwell and Margaret Meier; sister, Nadine Clay of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lloyd and Donald Chick, sisters, Leona McQueen, Hazel Ruth Miles and Grace Bender.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time.
