Judith “Judy” Lou Emert, 84, of Sabetha died Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.

Judy was born February 7, 1940, the daughter of Clarence Kettler and Lourena (Cutting) Kettler at home in rural Paola, Kansas. She attended Paola schools and graduated from Paola High School in 1957. Then, Judy attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas and graduated with a bachelor- degree in Home Economics.

In 1961, Judy moved to Sabetha after accepting a Home Economics teaching position at Sabetha High School. A trip to the Tilson Standard Station led to Judy meeting her future husband, Darryl “Dutch” Emert. Dutch and Judy were united in marriage on December 22, 1962, at the First Congregational Church in Sabetha, and they were blessed to celebrate 51 years of marriage.

Judy taught Home Economics at Sabetha High until 1965. Later, Judy continued her education by earning her Master of Home Economics degree at Kansas State University in 1975. She enjoyed working in different fields throughout her career, which included being a Resident Manager at the Nemaha Country Training Center, a substitute teacher at various schools, and later, she was an Extension Educator through the University of Nebraska. Judy was an active member of NorthRidge Church in Sabetha, Gideons International, Stonecroft Christian Women- Club, and Berwick Home Benefit Family Community Education.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darryl on November 29, 2014; and her infant brother, David.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Emert of Holton, Kansas; her son, Jeffrey (Tammy) Emert of Phoenix, Arizona; her three brothers, Bruce (JeanAnne) Kettler, Keith (Avonne) Kettler, and Hubert (Sarah) Kettler; her seven grandchildren, Briana (Scott), Breck, Maggi, Kyler (Jordyn), Tate (Jeris), Reese, and Quinn; and her five great-grandchildren, Ferris, Elli, Aspen, Willa, and Wells.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the NorthRidge Church in Sabetha. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will be held in the Sabetha Cemetery.
