Harold E. Thompson, 96, of Denison, KS, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at The Pines South in Holton, KS. He was born March 23, 1927 in Hoyt, KS the son of Elmer and Nellie V. (Mann) Thompson.

Harold graduated from Denison High School in 1944. After graduation he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a lifelong member of the Denison community. He was a hard-working farmer and stockman. Harold was a member of the Masonic Lodge Post #42, and a member of the American Legion Post #44 both in Holton, KS. He was an avid bowler, enjoying the sport for over 50 years.

He married Elva H Lutz on August 19, 1956 in Holton. She preceded him in death on December 3, 1994, after 38 years of marriage.

Harold married Judith Kay Kidney on June 2, 1998 in Miami, OK. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2019 after over 20 years of marriage.

Survivors include his daughter, Ruth Ann Thompson of Kansas City, MO; 3 step-daughters, Kellie Decker Hundley of Holton, KS, Tammie Decker Abel (Mark) of San Antonio, TX, and Beckie Decker Rouse (Dennis) of Meriden, KS; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and a beloved dog, Bella.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Denison Cemetery. Family will greet friends 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Heart of Jackson Humane Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
