LaVonne I. Thieme, 96, of Bern, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas. Her 96 years on this earth were a blessing.

LaVonne was born on September 9, 1927, to Roy and Esther (Minger) Ehrsam on the family farm near Bern. She was an only child. LaVonne loved exploring the timber on the farm with her dad. She was an avid hunter and she also loved to fish.

LaVonne found the love of her life, George Thieme, and had a double wedding ceremony on January 28, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Bern. George and LaVonne had two sons, Paul and David. LaVonne- love of nature and the outdoors continued throughout her lifetime and was especially evident in the beautiful flowers that she grew. Also, her love of the Lord was amazing and unconditional.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband, George, and her son, Paul, on October 18, 1967, due to an electrocution accident. She was also preceded in death by her son, David, on October 28, 2018, and her granddaughter, Dawn Jenkins, on February 17, 1986.

LaVonne is survived by her daughter-in-law, Diane Thieme; her four grandchildren, Steven (Melinda) Jenkins, Shon (Joann) Thieme, Bobbi Thieme, and Muskrat Thieme; her six great-grandchildren; and her seven great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for LaVonne will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Lutheran Church of Sabetha. Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha is assisting the family with arrangements.
