Verlin David Green, 87, of Perry, KS, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at his home.

Verlin was born March 27, 1936 at Williamstown, the son of Garland Elwin and Ruth Lorene Allen Green. Living in the Perry and Williamstown communities all his life, he attended Williamstown and Perry Grade Schools and was a 1954 graduate of Perry Rural High School. He served six years in the Kansas National Guard from 1958 to 1964. Verlin competed in the RCA Rodeo Circuit beginning in High School, participating in bull riding, bareback riding, calf roping and steer wrestling until ending his career in 1963. He also served as a rodeo judge across the Midwest. While following the rodeo circuit, he also worked for the N.R. Hamm Company.

Verlin graduated from the Missouri Auction School in 1962 specializing in Livestock market auctions and later served as an instructor at the school for 15 years. Verlin started his auction career at Farmers Livestock Exchange in Wakarusa. He sold at Wakarusa 12 years before leaving to be an auctioneer at the Kansas City Stockyards for 20 years until they closed in 1991. He also auctioned at Lawrence Livestock Auction for 12 years, Kingsville Livestock Auction 18 years, Overbrook Livestock Commission 26 years, Emporia Livestock Sales Company 36 years and also served short stints at Council Grove and St. Marys Livestock Auctions. Verlin retired in August 2019 after 57 years in the Auction Business. In 1979, he started Green- Hi-Power Dog Food Company with his wife, Connie, working side by side, the product turned into a business they operated for 20 years before selling it in 1999.

Verlin had a great love for his dogs, horses and mules. He was instrumental in the forming of the Midwest Mule Club. He also raised and trained Beagles and enjoyed coon hunting and dog and mule shows. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, including K.U. and K-State, KC Chiefs, bull riding and watching westerns on TV. He was a member of Perry American Legion Post #142, Eastern Kansas Beagle Club, Midwest Mule Club, National Rifle Association, and the Perry United Methodist Church. He also served as a former Cub Scout leader and little league baseball coach.

Verlin married Connie Ellen Renfro on April 12, 1958 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Topeka, She preceded him in death on July 18, 2022. Verlin had a great love for Connie, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives.

He is survived by a daughter, Cristy V. (Leon) Bidinger, Perry, KS, a son, Kyle D. (Renee) Green, Lawrence, KS, two sisters, Marita (Carter) Hamm Herrera, Bradenton, FL, Dr. Patricia Green, Longwood, FL, five grandchildren, Kallie (Ricky) Morris, Lawrence, KS, Nic (Aliza) Bidinger, Perry, KS, Laura (Jake) Walter, Olathe, KS, Austin (Hailey) Green, Kirkland, WA, Alex (Logan) Green, Fate, TX, six great-grandchildren, Dayton, Brinnley, Savannah, Jayce, Emma and Bennett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, his parents, step-parents, Pauline Green and Norman Hamm and a step-sister, Sandra Jensen Combs. Verlin will be deeply missed by all the many lives he touched through the years.

A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Perry American Legion. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 AM, before the services at the Legion. Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry. Memorials suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to Jefferson County Home Health in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O.
