Kenneth Francis Meyer, 87, of Baileyville, Kansas, passed away on March 18, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, with his family by his side.

Kenny was born on April 25, 1935, the sixth child of Henry and Clara (Haug) Meyer at the family farm. He graduated from Baileyville High School in 1953. After graduation, he served in the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. After his honorable discharge, he served four years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Kenny enjoyed being active in the community. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving on the Parish Council and as a communion distributor and a lector for 25 years. He was a member of the B&B Unified School District #451 school board for twelve years. Kenny helped on the chain gang during the football games at Baileyville. Kenny also coached Baileyville summer baseball, was a member of the Axtell American Legion, and was selected to go on Kansas Honor Flight #77 in 2019.

On October 14, 1958, Kenny married Alice Wempe, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, Kansas. They lived on the family farm north of Baileyville for 48 years, until moving to Baileyville in 2006. He was a grain farmer and also raised livestock. Kenny loved farming the land along with his wife, Alice, and later farmed with his son, Mike.

His favorite pastimes were going to the casino and hanging out at Beaver- station catching up on the local happenings. He was well-known for his sense of humor, positivity and ornery personality.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Alice, of 64 years; his four children, Michael (Kristi) Meyer, Baileyville; Laurie (Paul) Strathman, Seneca; Jeanne (Tony) Bruna, Hanover; David (Heather) Meyer, Olathe; his brother, Clarence (JoAnn), Soldier; five sisters, Elaine Meyer (Jean Placke), Baileyville; Marilyn Holthaus, St. Benedict; Dolores Saggars, Olathe; Kathy (Richard) Buessing, Axtell; Janice (Tom) Tomlinson, Sarasota, Florida; and sister-in-law, Thelma Meyer, Granger, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernis on September 4, 2012 and Donald on March 6, 2013; his sisters, Sr. Mary John Meyer on April 10, 2020 and Mildred; a sister-in-law, Marcy Meyer; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Holthaus and Steve Saggars.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 and 7 PM on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials can be given in Kenny- memory to the Sacred Heart Church and/or the Baileyville Baseball Association, sent in care of the family.
