Roy Nider

Roy Nider was born on September 21, 1936 in Waterville, Kansas to Vernon Lawrence and Emma (Henrich) Nider. Roy spent his childhood in Blue Rapids, Kansas where he was one of seven children and graduated from Blue Rapids High School in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Noland) Nider on July 28, 1956. Roy then worked multiple jobs including owning gas stations in Manhattan and Clay Center, Kansas and working as an engineer for the Kansas Department of Transportation until 1972.

Roy and Linda then moved to Axtell, Kansas where they purchased their first grocery store. Together Roy and Linda then owned and operated several retail businesses throughout their marriage, including grocery stores in Tecumseh and Pawnee City, NE and Clay Center, Axtell, Onaga and Herington, KS. Roy’s passion in life was spending time with his family and golfing excessively. He loved golf, as all of his family and friends know, especially with his children and grandchildren. Roy also loved traveling to Reno, Nevada where he played in many pro-am golf tournaments.

Pops was a generational man who lit up every room he walked into. The respect he had for his friends, family, and community was incredible. He was an amazing man that left an impact everywhere he went. Roy was one of the good ones. 

Roy is survived by daughter Chris McManus and husband Mike of Marysville, KS, daughter Annie Stueve and husband Earl of Frankfort, KS, son Barry Nider of Beatrice, NE, daughter Shelley Wood and husband Tony of Pawnee City, NE, son Jay Nider and wife Sandra of Wamego, KS and son Jeff Nider and wife Donna of Pawnee City, NE, 18 grandchildren; Jason Brinegar and wife Libby, Tara Venema and husband Jason, Brandi Brinegar and wife Liz, Michelle Ice and husband Ryan, Sam Stueve and wife Ronessa, Kurt Nider and wife Becky, Abbie Kufahl and husband Garrett, Alyssa McCoy and husband Jake, Alex Wood and wife Kelsey, Caleb Wood and wife Taylor, Megan Poverud and husband Keith, Rachel Nider, Zachary Nider, Sara Guhr and husband TJ, Austin Nider and fiancé Morgan O’Malley, Savannah Van Winkle and husband Tyler, and Mallory Nider and boyfriend Mitchell McWilliams; and his 26 great-grandchildren; Tommy, Nathan, Ashlinne, Caden, Evan, Easton, Wyatt, Tesla, Jackson, Charlie, Ben, Teddy, Eleanor, Max, Lennon, Alli, Konnor, Koy, Stanton, Amelia, Brayden, Brentley, Crue, Zander, Josie, and Brielle.

Roy was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Linda in 2013, his parents, son-in-law Tom Brinegar, brothers Dean, Bill, and Larry Nider and sisters Lanie Byrd, Joanne Mettler and Marianne Craft.

A Celebration of Life will be held at  2:00 p.m., Friday, September 23, 2022 at Schilling Bridge Winery, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Officiating Jay Nider.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from Noon to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
