Marilyn Jalayn Andrews, 86, of Holton, KS, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at Evergreen Community of Johnson County in Olathe, KS.

Marilyn was born September 25, 1935 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Merlin LaReux Rogers and Ivolue Farmer Rogers. She started school at Potwin Elementary prior to moving with the family to Carrollton, MO, where she attended grade school. The family returned to Topeka and she attended Roosevelt Junior High School and graduated from Topeka High School in 1953. She received a BS from Kansas State University in 1957. She retired in 2000 from the State of Kansas, Social and Rehabilitation Services, as an Administrative Officer after 24 years of service.

Marilyn was a life member of the Kansas State University Alumni Association, a member of the Jackson County Catbackers, a member of the Topeka High School Historical Society and a member of the First Baptist Church of Holton. She was honored to be a member of Holton’s Chapter P of the PEO Sisterhood and a member of the Holton Tourist Club. She was very pleased to be a volunteer at Holton Hospital in the Cardo Unit. She danced with the Happy Tapper’s Dance Group. She was an avid sports fan, who supported KSU, Washburn, Holton High, The Cubs and The Braves. She also traveled many miles to Ricky Van Shelton concerts where she enjoyed meeting other fans from all over the country.

She married Charles M. Reynolds in July 1958 in Denver, CO, where they resided for many years. They divorced in 1974 and Marilyn returned to Kansas. She married Henry C. Andrews in May 1980, they also divorced. Mr. Andrews died in February 2003.

Marilyn is survived by her three children, Julia K. Darrah of Tuscan, AZ, Michael C. Reynolds of Oakland, CA and Susan A. Reynolds of Lawrence, KS. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren; Ariel Almquist, Zachary Johnson and Dylan Busarto; and her great-grandchildren, Asher, Beckett, Cameron, and Fernie. She will be missed by “The Girls”, a wonderful group of ten friends of Holton (the Baptist Belles) and unbelievable caring friends, Jay and Carol Buehler (Carol preceded her in death on February 27, 2022). While a student at K-State, she began a life-long friendship with two dear friends, Kay Suddath of California and Janet McKinsey of Nebraska. Without Janet’s love and support thru the years, Marilyn would have been lost.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Merlin and Ivolue Rogers and a brother, Glenn L. Rogers.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Marilyn will lie in state Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Holton or the Topeka High School Historical Society.
