Michael Monson

Michael G. Monson, 69, of Everest, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born on August 25, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri the son of John and Mary Lou Andrews Monson. Mike attended school in Everest and Horton graduating from Horton High School in 1968. He then attended Highland Community College for a year.

Mike was a beloved member of the Everest community. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding horses. He loved animals and use to breed and raise Doberman Pinchers. He saw a lot of the country as an over the road trucker in his younger years as well. He owned and operated two businesses in Everest, where he did heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical work. He was an EMT/Medic for over twenty five years for the Horton Ambulance Service. He served as an Everest City Council Member and on the Everest Fire Department for many years. He loved the time spent with the grand kids. The stories they would share always brought a smile to his face. Going for a gator ride was also a fun activity.

He is survived by his family: Cindy Bechtold of the home; Kallie (Drew) Foss of Olathe, Kansas, Josh (Kim) Bechtold of Leona, Kansas, Hannah (Joe) Leonard of Cedar Falls, Iowa, grandchildren: Jack, Evelyn and Grady Foss, Mason and Mila Bechtold and Theo Leonard; nephews and nieces; Jeff (Adrienne) Monson of The Colony, Texas, Johnathan Monson, Harlea Monson; Kristin (Mike) Carroll of Cypress, Texas, Kaitlin Carroll; Sister-in-law, Carol Monson and pets, Zeek and Zoey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Lou Monson and his brother, Rick Monson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at the Miller Cemetery east of Everest, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Brown County Humane Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
