Virginia “Jeannie” Meininger, 84, of Fairbury, NE, formerly of Powhattan, KS, passed away September 26, 2016 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln. She was born July 15, 1932 at Atlanta, NE to Lewis & Francis (Johnson) Ventling. She married Donald Eugene Meininger October 31, 1953.

Survivors are children Janet L. Caballero (Francisco) of Topeka, KS, Bruce Meininger (Renee) of Netawaka, KS, Ann Marie (Duane E.) Wente II of Hoxie, KS, sister Lois Miller of Trona, CA, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was also Grandma to Bruce & Renee’s many foster kids.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, companion Mike Compton, and sisters LaDonna & Beverly.

Virginia enjoyed bowling, Big Jim’s bus tours to various casinos, watching the Royals and Nebraska Huskers, and she loved being involved with the Avenue of Flags. She also participated in Bingo and enjoyed playing cards with friends.

Virginia worked for many years at the Veterans Administration office until she retired. She helped many Veterans by driving them to Lincoln for their appointments. She was the Bookeeper and Treasurer for Legion Auxiliary Post #3113.

Services will be at 3:30 pm Sunday, October 2nd, 2016 at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home Chapel in Fairbury with Pastor Gordon Shipley officiating. Wear your favorite Nebraska or Royals shirt if you like. The family will greet friends Sunday October 2nd from 2:00 pm until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be on Monday, October 3rd at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege. Memorials have been established to Legion Auxiliary Post #3113. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
