Dan A. Jackson, 78, long time English teacher in Atchison died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at his apartment in the Massasoit Apartments.

Memorial services will be 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 28th, 2016 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Strickland officiating. The body has been cremated. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church Youth Group and may be sent in care of the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Dan was born on Feb. 3, 1938 in Clarksdale, Mississippi the son of Richard A. and Lucille E. (Brewer) Jackson. He graduated from Coahoma County High School in Clarksdale in 1956. Mr. Jackson served in the United States Air-Force and had been stationed in Alaska. He graduated from Ottawa University with a BS degree in English/ Education. Mr. Jackson was a teacher in Eureka, KS, before teaching High School English at Maur-Hill Prep School from 1993 to 2003. He taught English for U.S.D. 409 from 2003-2007. Dan assisted with forensics, debate, and theatre while teaching. He was a founder and co-owner of Deware Enterprises, where he and David Deware owned and operated apartment and home rental units. Mr. Jackson enjoyed playing the piano, organ, reading, gardening and calligraphy.

Survivors include two sisters, Carolyn T. (Allen) Dawson, Atchison, KS, and Sherry (Samuel Hubert) Ely, Clarksdale, MS, and two nephews; Lee Wess and Martin Ely and his adopted family David and Kaylene Deware and their children Hannah and Michael, of Atchison, KS. His parents and one sister, Lucy Ann Jackson preceded him in death.
