OPAL AUDREY PITTENGER HOLTON- Opal Audrey Pittenger, 99, of Holton, KS passed away Friday, February 05, 2016. She was born August 11, 1916 in Goff, KS, the daughter of Chester George and Grace Belle Porter Sourk. Opal had attended Fairview Grade School and graduated from Goff High School in 1934. She worked as a switch board operator for JBN Telephone Company in Soldier beginning in 1956. She then worked for United Telephone in Holton from 1958 to 1980 and from 1980 to 1985 in Athens, TX before retiring after 29 years as an operator. Opal attended the First United Methodist Church in Holton and enjoyed helping in the kitchen. She was also a member of the “Elite” Soldier Wednesday Night Club and loved watching her kids and grandkids play sports. She was married to Charlie Louis Pittenger on October 31, 1935 in Hiawatha, KS. Charlie passed away May 1, 1990. Opal was also preceded in death by her daughter, Pat Moulden; her son, Rex Pittenger; her sister, Jessie McConnaughey; her brothers, Clyde and Wayne Sourk and her grandchildren, Randy and Tammy Scott. She is survived by her daughters, Ina Grace Bryan (Richard) of K.C., KS and Phyllis J. Scott (Bob) of Holton, KS; her son, Steve Pittenger (Barb) of Shawnee, KS; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in Olive Hill Cemetery west of Holton. The family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Beck-Bookman Library or Heart of Jackson Humane Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
