Frances J. Scholz, 98, Lancaster, KS passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Carriage Square Living & Rehab, St. Joseph, MO.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, December 4, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster, KS, with Sister Mary Arie officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Cemetery.  Family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church.  The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Cystic Fibrosis and may be sent in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Frances was born February 13, 1917 at a farm home near Lancaster, the daughter of Frank and Dora (Nevin) Anderson. She attended the Shannon grade school and graduated from ACCHS in Effingham. She attended Emporia State Teacher College and Mount Saint Scholastica College in Atchison.  She taught school at Float school south of Atchison for four years and at Bellevue school north of Atchison for two years.  Frances was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was church organist for over fifty years.  She was a past member of the Ladies Aid Group and the Missionary Society of the church, a charter member of the Star Homemaker EHD Unit of Atchison County and a past member of the Order of Eastern Star in Huron and the Atchison Rebehak Lodge.  Frances was a lover of music and gave piano lessons for many years.  In 1970 she and her husband purchased the insurance company from the Lancaster bank and she worked in the company for thirty-five years, retiring in 2005.  Her hobbies included collecting poems and clocks.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and grand children.

Frances married Karl Scholz on June 16, 1941 at Lancaster United Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on October 28, 1988.  Survivors include a son: Dwight (Phyllis) Scholz, Lancaster, KS, three daughters; Diane (Darcy) Cress, Agency, MO Jeanette Jones, Chapman, KS, Karla Stalwick, Seattle, WA, eleven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents a sister, Kathryn Clem a granddaughter, Bria Cress.
