James Edward Urban

James Edward Urban, 71, of Bendena, died Monday, August 10, 2015, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

He was born at the family farm home near Bendena, July 14, 1944, one of two children born to William “Bill” and Naomi Rodiger Urban.  He grew up near Bendena where he attended country school, later graduating Midway High School with the class of 1962.  James started work as a mechanic/salesman for Tom Miller at Miller Implement, John Deere dealer in Highland, in 1962 until1969.  In 1969, he started farming, raising livestock near Bendena where he also sold seed corn for many years.  In later years, he and his son Patrick, purchased Bendena Grain.  He enjoyed his family where he spent time with them at their lake home near Climax Springs, Missouri.

Jim was a member of BPOE #1741, Hiawatha Elks Lodge of Hiawatha; the Kansas Livestock Association; and Doniphan County Farm Bureau.  Jim was an avid antique tractor collector and collectible toy tractors.

He married Raynette Bromley, May 1, 1965, at Atchison.  She survives of the home.

Also surviving are his children:  Kelly DeMeritt (Glenn) of Atchison, Patrick Urban (Kim) of Robinson, Michael Urban (Dany) of Bendena; a sister Marlene “Molly” Lane (Ronnie) of Winchester; seven grandchildren:  Kyle, Chelsea, MaKinley, Paige, Piper, Mason, and Maya; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will meet with friends from 5 until 8 Sunday evening, August 16, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland.  Cremation will follow with private inurnment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison.  

Friends may call at the funeral home in Highland after 12 noon Sunday.
