RUTH WATKINS HOLTON - Ruth N. Watkins, 88, of Holton, KS, passed away Saturday morning August 8, 2015 at Vintage Park in Holton. Ruth was born on January 27, 1927 in Wetmore, KS, the daughter of William C. and Ola A. (Burget) Driscoll. Ruth graduated from Wetmore High School in 1945. She had lived many years in the Muscotah and Larkinburg area. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Larkinburg Christian Church; she was a sewing leader for the Rose Valley 4-H Club and also served on the Atchison County Election Board. Ruth was well known for her delicious lemon meringue pies. She married Phillip LeRoy Watkins on June 5, 1946 in Holton. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki S. Hopkins; a grandson, Alan E. Elliott; a great-grandson, William C. Elliott; two brothers, Burton B. Driscoll and William Junior Driscoll and two sisters, Hazel M. Ford and Bernadine B. Bohannon. Survivors include two daughters, Anita Fassnacht (Tom) of Muscotah, KS and Phyllis Webster of Holton, KS; a sister, Wilda June Brown of Owasso, OK; 6 grandchildren, Patrick Fassnacht, John Fassnacht, Mark Hopkins, Brenda Nolan, Michael Elliott and Pam Martin and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Larkinburg Christian Church with burial to follow in the Larkinburg Cemetery. Ruth will lie in state beginning Monday and the family will greet friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
