Ruth Ellen Winter, 74, Valley Falls, died Saturday, August 8, 2015 at her home in Valley Falls. Ruth was born November 20, 1940 in rural Nortonville, the daughter of Wilbur Ray and Delpha Ruth Stephens. Following the death of her mother, Ruth was raised by her step-mother, Dorothy Keim Kirkham and her father. Ruth was a 1958 graduate of Valley Falls High School. She served as a cook in the Valley Falls School District #338, retiring in 2003 after 21 years of service to the district. She was a member of the Ozawkie United Methodist Church. She was married to Millard DeVere Winter on April 5, 1959 in Ozawkie, Millard survives at the home. She also survived by her Step-Mother, Dorothy Kirkham, Topeka, three sons, DeVere (Rita Henderson) Winter, Carbondale, Pete (Debbie Adams) Winter and Andy (Jessi) Winter, all of Valley Falls, six daughters, Ellen (Darrell) Hug, Mayetta, Brenda (Rex) Lloyd and Angela (Virgal) Morrow, all of Valley Falls, Cheryl Winter, Topeka, Jana Winter, Valley Falls, and Jill (Cody) Penry, Valley Falls, three brothers, Dale Kirkham, Eureka, Kenneth Kirkham, Strong City, Donnie Kirkham, Washington, two sisters, Linda Polson, Lebo, Dorene Smith, Topeka, 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Grave Side Services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 15, at the Ozawkie Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa (1220 Walnut/Hwy 59). Memorials are suggested to A.L.S.
