Melvin Kolterman

Melvin O. Kolterman, 94, of Onaga, died Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at the Eastridge Nursing Facility in Centralia.
 
He was born October 26, 1920, on a farm north of Onaga, the son of Otto and Bertha Kolterman.  He graduated from Onaga High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio control tower operator.
                                     
Melvin was a farmer, stockman and dairyman.  He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Duluth where he held many leadership roles and served on numerous boards.  He served on the U.S.D. No. 322 school board for twelve years and was president for four years.  He was a Trustee for the Mill Creek Township for twelve years and a member of Onaga V.F.W. Post No. 7772.  Melvin’s passion in life was fishing.  If there was a storm coming in, he had a line in the water.
 
He married Lorena L. Bosse on March 16, 1952 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton.  She died May 26, 2009.
 
Melvin was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Vernon Kolterman and Lyle Kolterman.
 
Survivors include three sons, David Kolterman, Onaga, Dan Kolterman and wife Robin, Havensville, and Mark Kolterman and wife Teresa, Onaga; two daughters, Cathy Perkins and husband Gene, Howard, and Marian Bolz and husband Tim, Topeka; twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 10th at St. Paul‘s Lutheran Church in Duluth.  Burial with military honors will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Melvin will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Sunday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Onaga, where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., followed by visitation.  Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O.
