Wilbur Leon Bindel, 85, of rural Hiawatha, died late Monday evening, July 20, 2015, at Highland Health Care Center.

Wilbur was born at Powhattan, June 10, 1930, one of three children born to Leonard and Evelyn Peck Bindel.  He grew up near Powhattan where he attended country school prior to graduating from Powhattan High School.  One of life regrets was he so wanted to serve his country in the military but at that time, the military would not accept the only son of the family.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Loudeen, February 20, 2013.

Survivors include his five children:  Ron (Gilberta) Bindel of Hiawatha, Rodney Bindel, Brenda Bindel, and Stanley Bindel, all of Horton, Bruce Bindel of Lodi, California; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.  He is also survived by two sisters:  Rosetta Cassell and Joyce (Gerald) Adcock, both of Topeka.

It was Wilbur’s request to be cremated with no formal service.

Private family inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha
