Thomas R. Brown, 76, Valley Falls, died Thursday, July 16, 2015, at his home.

He was born Dec. 23, 1938, at Dunavant, KS, the son of Charles O. and Jennie Mae Woolaway Brown. He graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1956 and Washburn Univesity in 1973. He served in the US Army Reserves.

Tom was Vice-President and Cashier of the Kendall State Bank in Valley Falls. He began working at the bank in 1962, semi-retired in 2009, and continued as a consultant. Prior to that he had worked at Meyer’s Condensery in Valley Falls.

He was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and had served on various committees and boards. He was a member of the Valley Falls Lions Club, and had served as treasurer of the Valley Falls Cemetery Association.

Tom married Linda K. Lederer, Feb. 16, 1973, at Valley Falls. They divorced. He married Leah Werst Decker, Aug. 17, 2005, at Topeka. 

Survivors include his wife, Leah, of the home; two sons, Travis Brown, Kansas City, MO, and Jeff Brown, Topeka; and a sister, Rosemary Strole, Topeka.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, east of Valley Falls. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
