Emily (Tarter) Newton, 91, of Wathena, Kansas died Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Emily was born on Jan. 27, 1924 in Wathena, Kansas to Barney and Hazel Tarter. She was a lifelong resident of Wathena.

Emily is a member of the Christian faith. She was a Sunday School teacher for more than 40 years.

She married Henry Newton on April 16, 1941. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2013. Emily was also preceded by her parents, daughter, LeEtta Townsend, granddaughter, Elizabeth Townsend, sisters; Virginia, Minnie, Jackie, Babe, Alice, Viola, brothers; Tommy and Buster. 
Survivors: sons; Wallace (Nelita Guess), Dennis (Lori), Mark (Angie), Bruce (Jill), Newton all of Wathena, daughter, Sharon Ruhnke of Wathena.
11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Sisters; Letha Shelton of St. Joseph, Missouri; Margie Eggert of Las Vegas, Nevada

 Funeral: 6:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2015
At: New Life Church in Blair, Kansas with visitation to follow 7-8:30 PM. Friends may call at the Harman Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena after 9 AM Saturday.
