Arthur Snyder, 92, of Highland, died Thursday evening, June 25, 2015, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital. 

Art was born on a farm northeast of Hiawatha, June 14, 1923, one of ten children of William Franklin and Nell Kramer Snyder and had lived in the Hiawatha-Highland areas all of his life.  He grew up on the family farm where he attended country school.  He farmed the family farm until after the boys were born when the family moved to Highland.  He later operated a rural St. Joseph Newspress route for a number of years prior to serving as curator for the Iowa, Sac & Fox Museum, east of Highland, before retiring.

Art was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church, north of Leona; and did volunteer work for Highland Pride.  He loved to ride horseback and raised many ponies through the years and was a member of Highland Saddle Club.

He married Betty Wareham, December 8, 1947, at Hiawatha. She survives of the home.

Also surviving are sons Dennis Snyder and Randy Snyder, both of Highland, and Bob Wareham of Whiting; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; and his nine brothers and sisters.

A celebration of Art’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Pastor Jerry Petering officiating.  Interment will follow at Hiawatha Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon until 7 p.m. Sunday.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Monday.
