Alta Marie Jones- Roush, 82, of Sabetha, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Apostolic Christian Home.

She was born to the late Chalmer and Caroline (Lockert) Wright on February 13, 1933, in Centralia, KS

Alta Marie married Lee Jones on December 24, 1950. Three children were born from this union, Marla, Kent and Lonnie. Lee passed July 19, 1965. Marie then married Vern Roush on December 29, 1968. She enjoyed bragging on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Alta Marie grew up as a girl on the farm doing the daily chores, while her parents made sure the household was full of music: vocal, piano, and French Horn. The music continued through her adulthood, singing in church choirs, specializing in solos. 

Marie was one of the first females in the country to earn an insurance license in 1968. She worked at Flott Insurance, Sabetha KS for many years, enjoying insuring households and trucking companies’ fleet insurance. Marie and Vern purchased a Wholesale Dairy Delivery company in 1973 which became Roush Delivery. In 1991 Marie and Lonnie purchased the company and developed J&R Delivery working together until Marie retired in 2009.

She always made time for civic and church committees within the Morrill and Sabetha communities. Most evenings she could be seen in the park in Morrill watering the flowers or cooking for a community event or helping out with a person who was ill. 

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands’, Lee Jones and Vern Roush and granddaughter, Lindsey Jones.  Survivors include her daughter, Marla Jones of Overland Park, KS, two sons, Kent (Sharron) Jones of Glasco, KS and Lonnie (Phyllis) Jones of Morrill, KS; step daughters, Roxane Robinson, Kay (David) Howerton, and Mary Jo Roush, all of Topeka; 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Marie will be greatly missed by family and friends. 

Funeral service is Monday, May 18, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.  The family will greet friends from 1:00 until service time at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Morrill Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be left to a fund yet to be designated by the family, sent in care of the funeral home, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66538. www.popkessmortuaries.com
