Michael A. Mierkey, 51, Atchison, Kansas, beloved brother and best friend passed away at his home on Thursday, May 14, 2015.

A time of remembrance will held at his home, 507 S. 21st Street, Atchison, Kansas, on Sunday, May 17, from 11:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., bring a covered dish if you wish. Michael was born January 10, 1964, at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois, the son of Clarence and Virginia Aument Mierkey. He attended Atchison High School and completed his Technical School in Kansas City, before joining the Army.

Michael served in the United States Army from May 10, 1988 until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1994. He served in the first Gulf War, Somalia, Mogadishu, and was also stationed for a time at Guantanamo Bay. He served in the Kansas National Guard for years preceding his active duty.

He enjoyed stock car racing and was a Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan. His passion was restoring his 1970 El Camino SS.

Michael is survived by his mother Virginia Mierkey, Warrensburg, MO, three brothers, Mark Mierkey, Atchison, KS, Matthew Mierkey, South Dakota, Melvin Mierkey, Atchison, KS, and a sister Michelle Mierkey, Warrensburg, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his father.
