Irene M. Marteney, 90 of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Pawnee Manor, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  She was born on August 13, 1924 in Dawson, Nebraska to William H. and Adela (Fidermutz) Meister.

Irene graduated from Dawson High School in 1941 and then attended Peru State College and received her teaching degree.  She taught for a year at a country school south of Humboldt. After meeting Herbert and getting married in 1944 in Seenca, Kansas, she wet to work in Kansas City building air planes. When Herbert returned from WWII they moved to a farm one mile south of Du Bois, Nebraska. She was also a housewife and mother.

On March 3, 1947 she had their first son Frank William Marteney, then on October 14, 1948 she had their second son Herbert Lawayne Marteney and on October 14, 1952 their third son was born Jim Albert Marteney.

They lived on their farm until October 16, 1952 when they moved their family and newborn son James A. to a farm south one mile into Kansas.  They lived on this farm until they moved to Du Bois, Nebraska.  After Herbert passed away and Frank and Herbert Jr. passed away she moved to Pawnee City, Nebraska, where she lived until her passing..

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Adela Meister, her husband Herbert Marteney, her two sons, Herbert Marteney and Frank Marteney, four brothers, Dennis Meister, Leo Meister, Melvin Meister and Bill Meister, 

Irene is survived by her son James Marteney of Pawnee City, Nebraska and partner Donna Hopkins, close family friends Mary Marteney and Tom Arnold, grandchildren; Jason & wife Lori Marteney of Topeka, KS, Jeremy Marteney of Hickman, NE, Jamie & husband Jason Porter of Pawnee City, NE, Kristal Marteney of Pawnee City, NE, Alicia and husband Travis Hall of Pawnee City, NE, Devon Marteney of Pawnee City, NE, Joseph Marteney of Pawnee City, NE, Gypsy Crowley of Pawnee City, NE, Ashley Box of Omaha, NE , 15 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Memorial service 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2015 at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, Nebraska.  Officiating Reverend Duane Westing.  Visitation Sunday, May 17, 2015 from Noon -8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Inurnment at the Du bois Cemetery, Du Bois, Nebraska.   Memorials may be given to family choice.  On line condolence may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com
