Erma Jean (Lange) Griffith

 Erma Jean (Lange) Griffith, 84, of Seneca formerly of rural Bern, Kansas was born on January 13, 1931 in rural Bern, Kansas to Herman and Matilda (Blazer) Lange. She was raised on the Lange family farm West of Bern and attended school in Bern. Erma Jean later graduated from Bern High School.

On August 21, 1954, Erma Jean was united in marriage to Rex Roy Griffith at the Friedens UCC Church in rural Bern, Kansas. To this union two sons, Robert and James, were born. The couple enjoyed 59 years of marriage while raising their family and farming. Jean was a homemaker and care giver for most of her life while continually helping with daily farm activities. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and cooking, and working with livestock. Erma Jean and Rex enjoyed going to dances with friends doing the Waltz and Polka. Jean played organ for her church for nearly 50 years and was a member of the Friedens U.C.C Women’s Guild. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially babysitting the grandchildren on weekends.

Jean passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Crestview Manor in Seneca, Kansas having reached the age of eighty-four years, three months, and fourteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rex Griffin, a sister Eula Mae Lamparter.

Jean is survived by hers sons: Robert Griffith and his wife Marlene of rural Seneca, KS; James Griffith and his wife Lisa of rural Bern, KS; grandchildren: Christopher Griffith and his wife Bethany of Topeka, KS; Lindsay Godfrey and her husband Ronnie of Rossville, KS; Holly Griffith of Topeka, KS; Heather Griffith of Topeka, KS; Kellie Griffith of Bern, KS; great-granddaughters: Brooklyn Godfrey, McKenna Griffith, and Alyssa Griffith; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Friedens U.C.C. Church in rural Bern, Kansas with Pastor Ken Tubbesing officiating.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Friedens U.C.C. Church in rural Bern, Kansas with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be at the Friedens U.C.C. Cemetery.
