James A. Vogel
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Herndon, formerly Hiawatha, KS

James A. Vogel, 76, of Herndon, Kansas, formerly of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Rawlins County Health Center. He was born on February 15, 1938 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Carl and Zula Mae (Bomar) Vogel. Jim was a carpenter, building homes in the Brown County area before becoming a finish carpenter, opening and operating Vogel Cabinets in Hiawatha, Kansas and Littleton, Colorado before retiring. On May 24, 1961 he married Sharon Smith at the United Methodist Church in Horton, Kansas. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Kansas, Elks Lodge and enjoyed playing in the Hiawatha Country Western Band for dances and parades. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Vogel of the home, Herndon, Kansas; two daughters, Kim (Todd) Hoffman of Castle Rock, Colorado and Stacey (Louis) Dawson of Atwood, Kansas; sister, Betty Young of Arkansas City, Kansas; three granddaughters and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Jim Vogel memorial fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
