Fern May Spanier, of Atchison KS went to join her loving husband, Bob, in heaven on Sunday, Jan. 4th, 2015. She passed away at the Atchison Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Jan. 8th, 2015 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Kollhoff officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens of Atchison. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Project Concern or the Atchison United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Fern May Lathrom was born in Humbolt, KS, the daughter of Andrew E. and Lydia F. (Riley) Lathrom. She attended school in Humbolt. She and Bob Spanier met in Lawrence, KS and were married on April 29, 1956 in Hutchinson, KS. Mr. Spanier preceded her in death on Tues. Dec. 30, 2014. She was a housewife and homemaker, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church, was a member and former officer of the Atchison Junior Guild, a member of Club 30 and the Newcomer’s Club. Fern was a volunteer and member of the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, member of Bellevue Country Club, several Bridge Clubs, and enjoyed spending time with her family, flowers and bird watching.

Survivors include four daughters; Lea (Richard) Steward, Atchison, KS., Sherri (Scott) Heald, Lecompton, KS., Bobbie Spanier, Topeka, KS., and Lana (Michael) Nicol, Topeka, KS, seven grandchildren, Seventeen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Her parents, husband Bob, four brothers; Vilas R., Clovis, Noble A., and Charles H. Lathrom, and five sisters; Alta B. Biggers, Alice Lathrom, Ruby J. Hooten, Charlet V. Bryan and Neva I. Hensen preceded her in death.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Atchison Hospital, Midland Hospice of Topeka and all the wonderful caregivers assisting their parents over the past four years.
