Edith Mae Topp, 84, passed away December 29, 2014 at her home near Tecumseh, Nebraska.  She was born to Foster and Edith (Houston) Sargent on January 29, 1930 at Crab Orchard, Nebraska.  She attended Crab Orchard elementary and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1948.  She lived with her family by Lewiston.  

Edith was united in marriage to Ervin Topp on January 20, 1948 at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Tecumseh.  Ervin and Edith lived and farmed west of Tecumseh, where all four children were born. The later bought a farm by Lewiston where the kids were raised.  Ervin and Edith moved to their farm in 1965 west of Tecumseh where they resided the remainder of their lives.  Edith was active in Grange in Lewiston for many years.  She and Ervin were both EMT’s when the ambulance service first started in Tecumseh.  

She worked as a nurse’s aid at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh for many years.  Edith was an excellent cook, cooking for the boys for many years.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, tatting, quilting and gardening.  Edith made a quilt for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She served all the Christmas costumes for the First Baptist Church.  If the ladies of the church needed something Edith would make it.  Edith was a hard worker and always chose to be busy all the time. She raised purebred cats for a long time.  She also took care of Ron’s business for many years and kept track of his customers coming and going.  

Edith is survived by her daughter, Carol Gimeson and husband Earl of Humboldt, sons, James “Jim” Topp George Topp and wife Lorie and Ronald Topp and wife Cherri all of Tecumseh, six grandchildren, Sara Allen and husband Ed of Humboldt, Jill Allen and husband Travis of Beatrice, Luke Topp and wife Ria of Tecumseh, Arlene Burchert and husband Daniel of Houston, TX, Jake Topp and wife Michelle and Andy Topp of Tecumseh, great-grandchildren, Schuyler Allen and wife Kayleigh, Courtney and Carissa Allen, Kendle, Caleb and Mariah Allen, Zeke Topp, Logan Topp, Tegan Topp, Madison Adams, Jessa Adams and Nikki LeAnn Burchert, brothers, Delbert Sargent and wife LaVeta of Bethany, OK, Milton Sargent and wife Marcia of Steinauer, Bryce Sargent of Medicine Lodge, KS and Darrel Sargent and wife Darlene of Arvada, CO, sister-in-law, Hilda Straube of Tecumseh and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ervin, grandson, Jesse Topp, twin sister, Edna Otto and husband Virgil and brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe Straube, Durwood and Leona Little and Marlene Sargent. 

Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015 with Rev. Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.  Register book signing will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Monday, January 5, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Memorials may go to the family’s choice.  Inurnment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
