Helen Leah Armstrong Waser, 75, died Wednesday evening, December 17, 2014, at her home in Atchison, KS. Helen, the youngest of two, was born to the late Willis & Vera Armstrong on July 26, 1939, in Atchison, KS. She grew up in Atchison & was a graduate of Atchison High School at the age of 16. She then attended KU, then returned to Benedictine in Atchison for 1 year, & finished her education at KU with a bachelor’s degree in music. She later got a bachelor’s in psychology from KU. She began her teaching career in Washington, KS, where she was married to Rod Waser; three children were born to this union. They were later divorced. She lived in Hiawatha, KS, and taught music in Horton for 42 years until retirement. She was also in charge of the band, the show choir, & theater for many years. She was a part of the Topeka Civic Theatre & Theatre Atchison, & was the pianist for several shows. She later used her drama skills with her grandchildren. Helen was very well educated in politics & enjoyed discussing current events. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Leavenworth. Church was a very important part of her life, as well as Music & theater. Later in life, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Mark Waser of Topeka; a son & daughter-in-law, Dirk & Becky Waser, & their children Connor, Tate, & Drake, of Horton, KS; a daughter & son-in-law, Stephanie & Jim Prohaska, & their children Joe, Leah (Lu), & Jack of Kansas City, Mo. She also is survived by her brother Willis & his wife Jean Armstrong, of Humboldt, KS; their children Lisa Armstrong of Chanute, KS, & Craig Armstrong of Overland Park, KS. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. at the Church Of Christ Church 3911 10th Ave, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048 on Saturday, January 3, 2015.
