Gary "Mac" McDermitt, 70, of Johnson, passed away July 20, 2014 in Lincoln. Retired Nebraska National Guard Staff Sergeant. 

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Johnson, son, Dean McDermitt of Omaha, daughter, Debbie McDermitt (Chuck Monsanto) of Yonkers, NY, granddaughter, Kaitlin Blake Monsato; grandson-to-be-born on August 15 and to be named after Grandpa; sister, Sue Steward of Tallahasse, FL and his beloved cousins, Betty, Norma Jean, Bev, Bill, Darlene and LaVonne. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at the St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church rural Humboldt, with Pastor Amalia Spruth-Janssen officiating. Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, 

Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may go to the St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church or Johnson QRT. Interment will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014 in the Columbus Cemetery, Columbus, with full military rites by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team and Columbus Hartman American Legion Post # 84.
