(KTNC)-- The final in a series of Household Hazardous Waste Collections are Friday in Falls City and Humboldt.
Five Rivers Resource and Development sponsors the collections. One will be held in Falls City, from 8:00 till 10:00 a.m., at the parking lot near Prichard Auditorium, and another collection will be held from 11:30 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. at the County Shop at 305 South Nemaha Street in Humboldt.
The collectons give people a chance to get rid of some common hazardous materials, including cleaning products, lawn and garden chemicals, paint, used oil, antifreeze, and fluorescent light bulbs.
Materials should be brought in disposable containers no larger than five gallons or 50 pounds.
Items that will not be accepted include tires, appliances, science lab chemicals, items containing asbestos, wood preservatives, PCBs, and explosives. Large, commercial-size, quantities also will not be accepted.
There are no residency restrictions and no charge to bring items in, though organizers are requesting a $5 donation to help defray the cost.
