(KTNC) - As progress continues on the first phase of Falls City’s Main Street Revitalization project, some questions have been raised about the width of the intersection at 17th and Stone, where the “bump-outs” have been installed.
Main Street Executive Director Eric Barr says in an email that the project engineer has provided answers to questions regarding the width of the streets.
Barr says the concept behind the bump-outs is to enhance pedestrian safety by slowing vehicles down through the downtown area.
The width of the nodes is typically 23-feet, with two 11-and-a-half foot lanes. That is slightly wider than the minimum standard of 11-foot lanes in urban areas.
Barring unforeseen events, Barr says the contractor anticipates reopening 17th Street by noon on Friday. They will then close Stone Street between 17th and 18th, as construction shifts to the 1700 Block of Stone and the intersection of 18th and Stone.
That phase of construction is expected to be finished by the end of October, weather permitting.
