The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced Atchison County U.S. 136 Highway will close for a bridge replacement project over Cow Creek on Monday, May 21st.
The bridge located approximately one mile east of Route J will be closed for replacement for six to eight weeks. During this closure motorists will be directed to use a signed detour over Route J and U.S. 59 Highway. Detour signs will be in place during this closure to alert motorists of the detour.
This is the final bridge in Atchison County to be completed under the Missouri Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program. Fourteen bridges in Atchison County were included in the Safe & Sound Program.
