A flood watch is in effect for northwest Missouri and far northeast Kansas. The National Weather Service has issued the flood watch from noon today through Wednesday evening.
The flood watch includes Atchison, Holt, Andrew, Buchanan, and Nodaway Counties in Missouri, and Doniphan and Atchison Counties in Kansas.
Periods of heavy rainfall are expected to impact the region from this (Monday) afternoon through Wednesday, with total rainfall amounts ranging from two to four inches, especially south of the Missouri River. Those rainfall amounts could cause some flooding of small streams, creeks, and possibly even larger rivers.
Low water crossings and low-lying roadways also may become inundated as heavy rain falls across the region.
Those with property or livestock in flood-prone areas are encouraged to monitor weather conditions closely.
A flood watch means the potential exists for flooding based on current forecasts.
