(KLZA)-- Falls City Economic and Development Growth Enterprise Executive Director Beckie Cromer presented the organizations Second Quarter report during the Falls City Council meeting Monday night and the Tuesday Richardson County Commissioners meeting.
Cromer provided an update on the progress of the Gold Star Sausage facility that is preparing to open in Falls City. The plant will hopefully be opening up in September. A job fair is expected to be held in August.Members of the Tri-State Labor Basin Committee met with Southeast Community College President Dr. Paul Illich this week to learn more about the proposed education outreach centers proposed for the 15-county SECC service area. Dr. Illich said data analysis is continuing to determine what type of education programming would work well here.
A push is being made to have an outreach center located in Richardson, Nemaha or Pawnee County to make the college more accessible to those living in the extreme southeast corner of the service area. One part of the process is to find a facility to locate an outreach center. SECC has budgeted approximately $1 million for the outreach centers proposed. That money would pay for staffing, equipment and location costs.
Cromer also noted in her report that local industries are continuing to expand. Herzog is in the process of building a more than 14,000 square foot storage building to give them more warehouse space. Airlanco is also adding $175,000 in equipment upgrades at their Falls City facility.
Cromer also invited the local officials and the public to meet Governor Pete Ricketts in Falls City on July 31. The Governor will be at the Grand Weaver Hotel at noon for a town hall meeting to hear what topics the public is interested in.
It was also noted in the report that a ribbon cutting for the Wilderness Falls Phase II housing development will be held at 2 p-m on September 2nd.
