New Nebraska Highway Plans Revealed

(KLZA)-- The Nebraska Department of Roads has released the Fiscal Year 2016 Surface Transportation Program. The plan details how the Department plans to use taxpayer highway dollars to improve the Nebraska highway system. 

Plans call for the expenditure of $505-million in 2016 with the money coming from state and federal highway user taxes and fees. From July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016 110 projects will be let to contract in the state. 

Funds from the Build Nebraska Act will be used on reconstruction of a new interchange southeast of Nebraska City at a cost of $22.285-million and completion of the 4-lane expressway between Plattsmouth and Bellevue.  

In District One in FY-2016 total dollars spent on highway improvements are projected at $85.597-million.  For 2017-2021 the expected price tag of work planned comes in at $477,215,000. 

Area work planned for FY-2016 includes 10.9 miles of milling and resurfacing work on Highway 62 from Near Shubert to Highway 75 in Richardson County at a cost of nearly $3.3-million.  

In Pawnee County plans call for over $1.5-million worth of milling, resurfacing, bridge repair and overlay work to Highway 4 in Table Rock. 

Nearly $4.96-million will be spent on Highway 2 from Lincoln to Syracuse for resurfacing and shoulder work.

In the Five-year plan for Richardson County plans call for more than $4.3-million in milling and resurfacing along with bridge rehabilitation and repair on Highway 8 near Salem, covering 6.2 miles of roadway.  Highway 8 from Salem to Falls City is also scheduled for milling and resurfacing in the 5-year plan at a cost of $4.07-million. 


Other Richardson County work is mill and resurface work of 9 miles of US 75 and Nebraska 67 at a cost in excess of $4.2-million.  $3.335-million for bridge work west of Stella on Highway 62 and nearly $3.15-million of resurfacing work on Highway 73 in Falls City and North covering 2.9 miles. Bridge rehab over the Big Nemaha River at Humboldt is planned at a cost of nearly $1.6-million. 

Pawnee County projects on the 5-year plan include $1.1-million for bridge rehab over Turkey Creek South of Steinauer on Highway 4 and Milling and resurfacing work on Highway 4 for 5.1 miles west of Table Rock at a cost of $2.75-million. 

Other Pawnee County projects planned at 12.4 miles of milling, resurfacing and bridge work on Highway 50 Southeast of Pawnee City at a cost of just over $8-million and nearly $5-million for resurfacing of Highway 50 from the West Junction of Nebraska 4 to Tecumseh covering 12 miles. $514,000 is expected to be spent on a bridge on Highway 65 south of Pawnee City. 

Nemaha County, Nebraska projects in the plan include $5.4-million for milling, resurfacing and bridge repair to Highway 136 for 6.8 miles west of Auburn.  

Four projects are in the 5-year plan for Highway 67 in Nemaha County.  Nearly $1.2-million for resurfacing south of Nemaha;  $2.1 –million for resurfacing 5.5 miles from the Peru Spur to U.S. 75; $4.27-million for milling, resurfacing and bridge repair work for 10.3 miles north of Talmage and $4.6-million for bridge replacement and bridge repair for Talmage North bridges. 

In Johnson County the only project currently included in the Highway plans is $2.435-million for milling and resurfacing of 5.9 miles of Highway 50 North of Tecumseh.
