Auburn Board Approves Baseball's Return
02/10/2015

(KLZA)-- The Auburn Board of Education Monday night approved renewing contracts for High School Principal Vernon Golladay at a salary of $90,000; Elementary School Principal Jackie Kelsay with a salary of $88,000; Athletic Director Scott Anderson at $77,000; and Director of School Improvement and Curriculum Nancy Fuller at $97,900.

Following a review of Superintendent Kevin Reiman’s evaluation the Board approved his contract through the 2016-17 school year and set his 2015-16 salary at $117,750 with a $3,000 health savings plan.

The Board also accepted the resignation of P.E. teacher and varsity football Head Coach Bob Fuller.

The 2015-16 Negotiated agreement with the districts Teachers Association was approved with a base pay increase of $800.  That will make the starting pay for a first year teacher in District 29, $33,200.

More than 20 people attended the meeting Monday night, most of whom were interested in the proposal to start a high school baseball program. Several times in the past the proposal was turned down but Monday night the Auburn School Board approved starting a varsity baseball program for the 2015-16 school year.

It is anticipated costs to start the program will be in the neighborhood of $15,000.  With gate receipts, possibly some students opting in to the district to play baseball and some Booster Club monies and concessions, it is believed the baseball program should cost less than $5,000 per year once it is up and running.
