(KTNC)-- As the National Weather Service has lowered the projected crest of the Missouri River from earlier projections, the Richardson County Emergency Management Agency is cancelling a voluntary evacuation order in the Rulo area.
The order was issued last night, when the National Weather Service predicted the Missouri River would rise to over 23 feet at Rulo, following heavy rain Tuesday night. The weather service lowered its forecast overnight, and now the river at Rulo is forecast to crest at 20.8 feet this (Thursday) evening, and fall below flood stage by Saturday night.
Due to the latest forecast, the Richardson County Emergency Management Agency says the voluntary evacuation order for Rulo was being lifted as of ten o'clock this (Thursday) morning.
Minor flooding is still forecast, and emergency management officials say you should not drive through areas where water covers the road, as the water depth may be too high to allow your vehicle to pass safely. Officials say you also should not play in or around floodwater.
A flood warning also continutes for the Missouri River at Brownville. The river there is forecast to rise to near 37.4 feet by this evening and fall below the 33-foot flood stage by Sunday morning.
The flood warnings for the Missouri River extend south past Leavenworth.
