(KAIR) -- On Friday, a KDOT Safe Routes to School project will begin in Leavenworth County.
Project work includes new and replacement sidewalks, modifying sidewalks to meet ADA standards, new: curb and gutter, crosswalks and signing, and installation of fence and bicycle racks.
Project improvements will occur at David Brewer Elementary, Earl M. Lawson Elementary, Henry Leavenworth Elementary, Anthony Elementary, and West Intermediate School.
Work will take place during daylight hours (7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), Monday through Friday.
There will only be occasional lane and shoulder closures.
The majority of the project work will take place off the roadway, so drivers should have minimal delays throughout the project duration.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zones via signage and cones.
Amino Brothers of Kansas City, Kansas is the primary contractor on this $248,219 project.
The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-May 2013, weather permitting.
