The long-anticipated construction on Falls City’s Main Street revitalization is set to start Monday.
Project Manager Rich Robinson of Kirkham-Michael outlined the construction of the first two phases of the project Monday during a meeting with downtown merchants.
The first phase includes construction on the south side of 17th Street from Stone to Harlan, and the intersection of 17th and Stone. Phase two, to be completed after phase one, is the west side of Stone from 17th to 18th and the intersection of 18th and Stone.
The contractor, AHRS Construction, has a maximum of 35 calendar days to complete each phase, which means phase one will be completed by August 15th – in time for the Cobblestone Festival. The contract calls for phase two construction to begin after phase one with completion by October 31st.
The streets will be closed while construction is taking place, though the contractor has agreed to keep the intersection of 17th and Stone open as long as possible. The contractor has also promised to work with business owners to maintain access to store fronts as much as possible through the construction process.
Prior to the start of construction, the Falls City Main Street organization is hosting a street festival from 4 p.m. till midnight Saturday on 18th Street between Harlan and Stone.
The festival will include music from DJ Romeo and Borderline Country, a beer garden and food booth, and games for kids and adults. Proceeds from the festival will go towards the downtown revitalization project.
