The process of converting two area Pamida stores into Shopko Hometown Centers is underway. On the heels of the finalization of its merger with Pamida, Shopko announced Monday the first phase of store conversions are beginning with liquidation sales at 15 stores – including stores in Falls City and Tarkio.
Shopko spokesperson Kristie Burns says the stores will remain open during the liquidation sales and the transition to Shopko Hometown Centers. She says they plan to have all Pamida stores converted to Shopko stores by the end of the year, with each store conversion taking five to six weeks from start to finish, once the liquidation sale is complete. The transition will also include new interior and exterior signage, updated fixtures, and improved store layout. Burns says there will also be a greater selection of merchandise, as she says Shopko has more emphasis on national brands.
The press release notes that the existing Pamida pharmacies will remain open and will accept new patients throughout the conversion process.
In addition to the Falls City and Tarkio stores, 13 other Pamida stores in Missouri and Indiana are beginning the conversion process. Burns says they hope to have these first conversions completed early this summer. More than 170 Pamida stores are slated to become Shopko Hometown Centers by end of the year.
Shopko is headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and operates 350 stores in 22 states.
