A long-time area high school coach has been dismissed as the head boys basketball coach at St. Joseph Bishop LeBlond High School.
The school announced this week that Vertin will not return to coach a 14th season. Over the past three seasons LeBlond has wen 22-49. Vertin missed 10 games this past season while recovering from heart surgery.
Vertin took over the Golden Eagles in 1999 and went 198 – 126 in 13 seasons, winning three district titles.
Vertin has coached for 40 seasons including three stops at Nebraska High Schools prior to coaching in St. Joseph.
Vertin also helped coach the LeBlond football team for 11 seasons including one year as head coach in 2009.
