Found Skull Originates In Circleville
02/23/2012

A somewhat unusual investigation, dating back a number of years, is underway in Jackson County.
It began Wednesday, when the Sheriff's Office was contacted by their counterparts in Sedgwick County.
The reason for the phone call?   A human skull had been recovered in that location, and Sedgwick County investigators determined that it had originally been in the possession of a family from the Circleville area since 1949.
Following the call, Jackson County investigators went to work, conducting several interviews, but no information has yet been obtained regarding the identity of the skull.
In a press release from Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, he notes that skeletal remains, in recent years, have been found in Jackson County, having washed down the Big Soldier Creek, with those remains determined to be a Native American around one-thousand-years-old.
The skull remains in the possession of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department; and, according to information released by that agency, the skull came into the possession of the family when it was left on their parents Circleville doorstep on Halloween night, in 1949.
Attempts to have the skull identified were made by the family in the late 1970's; and, at that time, it was determined that the skull was of Asian decent and most likely a World War II souvenir.
Anyone with information regarding the skull, originally found in Circleville, is asked to contact Jackson County authorities with details.
