The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $1.6 million in Indian Housing Block Grant allocations to four northeast Kansas tribes.
The Kickapoo Tribe Housing Authority has been allocated nearly $815,000; the Iowa Tribe Housing Authority, just over $374,000; the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, just over $249,000; and the Sac and Fox Nation Housing Authority, just over $230,000.
The funds are distributed each year to eligible Indian Tribes or their tribally designated housing entities for a range of affordable housing activities.
The funds are intended to primarily benefit low-income families living on Indian reservations or in other communities.
