Only one city employee in Effingham will have a wage increase for the upcoming year.
The City Council voted last (Wednesday) night to keep wages the same for city employees for 2012 with the exception of the janitor, who will get a one dollar an hour raise.
City Clerk Pat Strine says that employee hadn’t seen a wage increase in the past three years.
The council discussed water and sewer rates, and requested to have the city attorney draft a new ordinance to increase the sewer rates from 15 dollars a month to 20 dollars a month.
Strine says the current rate is well below the state average and it hasn’t been adjusted in over 10 years.
She says the stagnant rate also causes greater difficulty for the city to apply for grants.
The council also approved a job description for a city pool manager.
They council requested the start of advertising for that position, as well as lifeguards in preparation for re-opening in late spring.
